HMS Penelope

Nine ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Penelope, named after a character in Greek mythology.

  • HMS Penelope ( 1778), a warship of the 6th rank with 24 cannons, which was placed in service in 1778 and conquered in 1780 by his Spanish prisoners.
  • HMS Penelope (1783 ), a warship of the fifth rank with 32 guns, was launched in 1783 and was scrapped in 1797.
  • HMS Penelope (1798 ), a warship with 32 guns, 1815 scrapped
  • HMS Penelope (1829 ), a warship with 46 guns,
  • HMS Penelope (1867 ), a corvette, 1897 converted to the prison ship and sold in 1912,
  • HMS Penelope (1914 ), a light cruiser Arethusa class ( 1912)
  • HMS Penelope (1918 ), a tender,
  • HMS Penelope (97 ), a light cruiser Arethusa class ( 1934), entry into service in 1935, sunk at Anzio in 1944 by torpedo from U 410
  • HMS Penelope ( F127 ), a frigate of the Leander class, put into service in 1962, sold to Ecuador in 1991 and renamed Presidente Eloy Alfaro, scrapped 2008.
