Högsby

Hogsby is a locality ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Kalmar län with about 2000 inhabitants and municipal seat of the same name.

The place was a long time after the alleged settlement in the early Iron Age, an agricultural town in the valley of the river Emån. In the 13th century a church was here at a Thing place where many roads came together, built. At the time of Dackegrottan uprising was Gustav I Vasa, the village burn down because the farmers had supported the leader of the rebellion. Similarly dramatic events are no longer followed thereafter.

At the end of the 19th century, the town got a railway which connects it with Kalmar and Linköping in the south to the north. In more recent times, the place itself advertises as a transportation hub, as also meet two imperial roads ( riksväg ) here. On these streets several cheap buy houses were built to supply the surrounding area.

The regular flooding of Emån leads in place to floods or water-filled basements. Previously could not change the containment of the water.
