Planned pumped storage power plant

Since 2011 Plans are the power company Mark-E ( Hagen ) and green plants ( Dusseldorf ) to build a pumped storage power plant with an upper reservoir on the High Eimberg and a lower basin in Itterbachtal at Schwalefeld with an investment of around 500 million euros. Alternative location for such a plant is the Sorpeberg at Glinge ( Finnentrop ) in the neighboring district of Olpe. Currently, it is assumed that at least ten years of planning and implementation period. Construction should not take place before 2019.

The upper basin of the site High Eimberg, are required for the 23.5 ha area at 128 192 m² storage area shall be allowed to take on about 2.67 million cubic meters of water with 2.51 million m³ pendulum amount of water. At 30 m depth, it should be surrounded by a ring-shaped earth and rockfill dam with height of 15 m, the dam material in the mass balance of the dredged basin area would. There were 1.52 million m³ of soil movements required. Through a gate tower and an adjoining, about 400 m long penstock, the water should fall with the pump turbines at 323.5 m height difference standing in Itterbachtal power house. Is to be built with an approximately 34 m high and 214 m long earth and rockfill dam near Schwalefeld 24 -acre sub- basin; the embankment material could be removed from the the construction costs incurred by the necessary tunnel overburden. It is 3.18 million m³ maximum volume and 2.55 million cubic meters of usable space on 227 450 m² have storage space. In the pelvic region, the L 3393 (see below) should be moved to about 3 km in length.

For the power plant also vary a pressure tunnel, access tunnel and pressure shaft and the power dissipation must be built. For the underground power plant 324 MW power at a power of 1950 megawatt hours are planned.

Transport and Hiking

Pass by the High Eimberg in the West State Road 251, which runs from Brilon by Brilon-Wald to Willingen, and in the east the country road 3393, by Schwalefeld leads from Bontkirchen to Willingen and there meets the B 251.
