Hoisin-Sauce

Hoisin sauce is a thick, dark sauce from the Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine, which is mainly used for meat dishes.

It tastes sweet and quite strong. Components are mainly fermented red soya beans, sugar, wheat flour, garlic, vinegar and chilli. There are also salt and sesame oil. Traditionally, it also contains sweet potatoes.

The term " Hoisin " is a transcription of the Cantonese pronunciation of the Chinese term "海鲜", which literally means seafood. However, these are not part of the sauce.
