Common Husar ( Holocentrus adscensionis )

The common Husar ( Holocentrus adscensionis ), also called yellow fin squirrel fish, is a fish of the family of the soldiers and hussars fish and the subfamily of hussars fish is assigned. The common Husar lives in the tropical western Atlantic from North Carolina on Bermuda, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean to Brazil. In the eastern Atlantic it comes from the coast of Gabon to Angola before, also in the central Atlantic at St. Helena, Ascension and the St. Peter and St. Paul's Rocks. He lives at depths of up to 180 meters, usually only up to 30 meters deep.

Features

The basic color of this 45 to 60 -centimeter fish is brick red. This color is, however, usually overlaid by white rows of scales and stains. During the hartstrahlige part of the dorsal fin is yellowish, the other fins are white. The hartstrahlige and weichstrahlige part of the dorsal fin are almost separated by a deep depression and only connected by a low membrane. The trailing edge of the jaw extends to the posterior margin of the eye.

Way of life

The common Husar lives in shallow coral reefs and in deeper coastal regions. The nocturnal species hiding under coral during the day and in deep crevices at night she goes through sandy areas and seagrass beds on the hunt.
