The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ( HKUST short, in Chinese香港 科技 大学) is a reputed university in Hong Kong. It lies on the coast of Clearwater Bay to the east of Hong Kong.

History

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was founded in 1991, making it one of the younger universities in Hong Kong. 2011 were enrolled at the University of nearly 10,000 students. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2012-2013 placed the HKUST ranked 33 in the world; the Asian University Rankings 2012 will see the HKUST as best university in Asia.

Campus

The HKUST is a campus university, which is limited to a single location. On campus, about 4,500 students live in student dormitories. Students in undergraduate courses usually share a room with one or more other students. Exchange students and international students are preferred in the living room allocation on campus. Students who live privately or in one of the halls of residence off campus, commuting almost exclusively by public transport to the university.

In addition to the academic building of the University, in which the lecture halls, classrooms, offices, laboratories, computer rooms and the multi-storey library level, the campus has many facilities that make life on campus: a large and a small soccer field, a running track, tennis courts, a basketball court, a swimming pool, a beach, picnic areas, a fitness center, a climbing gym, a supermarket, a bank, a post office, a doctor, a hairdresser and a bar. The sporting facilities can be used free of charge by students and staff.

The HKUST is divided into different faculties:

Academic life

The year is at the HKUST into four sections - the seasons accordingly - split: fall, winter, spring and summer. Due to the reorganization of the education system in Hong Kong, the standard period of study at the HKUST for undergraduate majors four years from 2012.

Tuition

The tuition fees at HKUST are higher than in Germany. International students pay during the academic year HKD 120,000 (approximately EUR 12,000 ). Local students pay with HKD 42,100 significantly less (approximately EUR 4,200 ).
