Hoogkerk

Hoogkerk is a village and municipality ( Dutch: " Stadsdeel " ) of the Dutch city of Groningen, in the province of the same name.

Hoogkerk is located in the extreme west of the city of Groningen, and notes with 19.28 km ² almost a quarter of the total area of the municipality. The present municipality was up to 1969 a separate municipality. The subsequent incorporation into the city of Groningen is still considered by many of the old-established inhabitants critical. Hoogkerk grew after the incorporation structurally increasingly with Groningen together, and forms with it today mainly a self-contained unit.

The district is characterized in part very industrial. A large sugar factory, a Teerfabrik and paper producers are located next to many other small and medium-sized businesses in the town.

To the Dutch motorway network of the district Hoogkerk its own exit ( No. 35) is connected to the A7. The railway Groningen - Leeuwarden thwarted Hoogkerk, until 1938 there was a breakpoint in the district Vierverlaten. Today, the closest railway stations of Zuidhorn and the Groningen Central Station. The Hoendiep ( Gronings: Houndaip ), the Peizerdiep and Aduarderdiep are navigable rivers, which meet in the district Vierverlaten.

The municipality ( " Stadsdeel " ) Hoogkerk consists of several districts ( " Buurten " ), villages and settlements, which are characterized in part still very rural.
