Geography

Geographical Location

Hoogstede is located northwest of Nordhorn on the border with the Netherlands. The Vecht river in the village, the Lee Creek flows into it. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Emlichheim, which has its headquarters in the town of Emlichheim.

In the community Hoogstede nature reserves Neuringer meadows, oxbow Vechte Kalle and mud silting area Tinholt lie.

History

The story of Hoogstede begins in 1821, when the chapel of the Reformed church was transferred from Arkel after Hoogstede. 1859, the Catholic church was built, then gradually developed into a center. In 1953, the Evangelical altreformierte church was built, in 1961, the Lutheran. Today about 3,000 people live in Hoogstede with its hamlets.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the municipalities mountains, Kalle, Scheer Horn and Tinholt were incorporated.
