Hörbranz

Hörbranz is a market town with 6340 inhabitants (December 31, 2013) in Austria in Tyrol in the district of Bregenz.

Geography

Hörbranz located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Bregenz north of Lake Constance to 426 meters. 23.6 % of the area is forested. There are no other local villages in Hörbranz. Hörbranz surrounded clockwise communities Hohenweiler, Möggers, Eichenberg and Lochau and ( in Germany ) Lindau Sigmarszell.

History

In Betz Tobel was a Burgus in Late Antiquity. Situated on the Roman road from Brigantium after Cambodunum, he served to protect the border. As Liubilunaha the plot Leiblach was first mentioned in 802, the first certain mention of the modern place- name dated to 1226 as Here Brandes Wiler. 1523 Hörbranz came with a part of Bregenz Austria.

The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria. For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Hörbranz heard since the foundation in 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

On July 6, 2008 Hörbranz was appointed to the market town.

Including the second homes 6,481 inhabitants were counted on 31 December 2002, with the proportion of foreigners was 11.6 %.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 27 members. The composition according to the 2010 election: 12 seats ÖVP, FPÖ 7 seats, Green 3 seats, 3 seats AAF and SPO 2 seats. Mayor Karl Hehle (ÖVP ) Vice Mayor Petra Srienz ( Green ). The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 4,766,400, the municipal expenditure at € 14,855,200. The debt was 2001 2.528.700 €.

Salvatorkolleg

Father Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan founded in 1893 the Order of Salvatorianer and Salvatorian as Marie College. The Swiss architect August Hardegger built the main building of the Salvator College between 1896-1906 in the style of historicism. The bell -like tower and the two Eckturmrisalite give the Bauerk a Mediterranean accent. The facility was used as a grammar school with boarding school or boarding school since 1896-1979 and is now a religious education center and meeting house. Since 1981 also the boarding for the students of the vocational school is housed in the hospitality industry Lochau. During the First World War used as a hospital, it was 1938-1945 barracks last collection camp for prisoners of war.

Castle Half Stone

In the district of baking Reute located at the access path to Ruggburg the minimal remains of the former small castle Half stone.

Economy and infrastructure

At the site there are (as of January 2003) 652 students. In Hörbranz there are also 5 kindergartens.
