Horezu Monastery

Horezu Monastery (also called Monastery Hurezi ) is in the west of Wallachia (Romania ) at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. The monastery was founded in 1690 by the then Prince of Wallachia Constantin Brâncoveanu ( 1654-1714 ). The calls of owls ( Romanian " huhurezi " ) who spent time in the surrounding woods of the monastery probably gave the monastery its name. Built in Brâncoveanu style monastery belongs since 1993 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located on a hilltop monastery has been restored several times since 1827.
