Horizontal pitch

A division unit (English horizontal pitch, short- HP ), short TE, is a unit of measurement used for electronic assemblies for the description of their width. A TE corresponds to 1/5 inch, ie 5.08 mm. Thus, the division unit is equal to the spacing of 5.08 mm.

Origin

In general, the dimensions of cabinets, racks and sub-assemblies in inches ( 2.54 cm = 1 inch ) are indicated. Starting from a 19 "rack with a usable width of about 447 mm, there are a maximum of 88 space units. Rarely is the abbreviation TE used as unit of depth for modules. This definition is, however, found only in exceptional cases on websites.

Division units in practice

In the picture of the cutout on a 19 "rack can be seen with 6 height units. On the right lies a standard module with a width of 4 subunits (20.32 mm). In this example, the guide rails are evident in every fourth detent and so have the correct distance for other boards. assemblies with more or less division units require a different spacing of the guide rails. maximum 19 "subrack can with the guide rails used here are used 42 modules, each with two pitch units wide in a standard.

Applications

With the division of the unit width is given by assemblies, so when planning a subrack, the possible number of components can be determined.

  • Of particular importance is the TE to the plant. There assemblies and modules are kept in 19 "racks.

Cabinet

In the cabinet and the electrical installation has the width of components such as circuit breakers, earth leakage circuit breakers, etc. in subunits (SU ) is specified. There, the width of a TE is 17.5 mm. For example, a circuit breaker with 16 amps a width of 1 TE.
