Horna

Horna is a Finnish black metal band. The name comes from the Finnish language and can be used as ' hell ' or, Abyss' to be translated. The composed by guitarist Shatraug lyrics are exclusively in Finnish, only a few pieces have English titles. During their career, the band changed several times their record company, their splits and EPs almost exclusively appeared on yet another record companies. In addition Shatraug replaced often the members of his band who brought with them not enough motivation.

History

The band was founded in 1993 in Lappeenranta of Shatraug and Moredhel ( Jyri Vahvanen, later the founder of Battlelore ); Shatraug was inspired by the emergence of the Norwegian black metal and especially the earliest recordings Emperor addressed him as no music before. To Hornas first influences included the Finnish band Beherit. A year later the drummer Gorthaur was added. This formed the cast for the first demo recording in 1995 under the name Varjoissa (Finnish: In the Shadows ') appeared. Shatraug described the recording afterwards, however, as worthless.

Another year later Nazgul joined the band, which is better known under his pseudonym later Satanic Tyrant Werewolf. In 1997, the band released their second demo Hiidentorni ( Finnish:, Tower of the demons ' ), which was re-released in the same year of Solistitium Records as debut album. There also appeared the two following albums Kohti yhdeksän nousua and Haudankylmyyden Mailla, with which the band was dissatisfied; she plays with the exception of published also on the Sota -EP material, none of the pieces live and is also considering any new entries.

Then Horna published several EPs and split EPs on different labels ( the split EP on Dark Horizon Records was originally supposed to be with Crucifier, instead appeared Fog on the other side of the EP and switched to Woodcut because they felt could Solistitium Records no longer give her the best support; . Woodcut bought Solistitium Records the rights to the Horna albums from and also got the for further earlier material with the exception of Haudankylmyyden Mailla for the re-release of the first album Horna took five new pieces under the title Ordo regnum Sathanas on, in addition to these and Hiidentorni published in 2000 Kohti yhdeksän nousua and some pieces of 1999 by Oskorei Productions released 10 " EP Perimä vihassa yes verikostossa together as a double CD, even though the contract said with Oskorei that these pieces should never be released on CD, so called Shatraug that at least half of the material removed will, although ultimately three of the five pieces released on CD. In addition Shatraug saw no point in the re-release of the material, as it no longer represents the band; the only decision the band had been lying in the selection of bonus material. The double CD stand as the last character of these albums. Nevertheless, he stated that the relationship with Woodcut is good, the label have done a good job for Horna and the band will stay there until there is reason for another change. In the same year Moredhel left the band. At one time operation Shatraug the label Warmoon Records, on which he Satanist, raw Black Metal published exclusively with bad sound; later he described it as only half- serious cassette label, with Grievantee Productions he had taken a step further things.

After the fourth album Sudentaival ( Finnish:, path of the wolves ') Nazgul left the band for personal reasons, lack of motivation and to devote himself to his solo project now completely Satanic Warmaster. He was replaced by Corvus, which is part of their occupation to this day. After some problems with Woodcut Horna ended the cooperation because the label had signed a U.S. license agreement with The End Records without asking the band before. Also regrets Shatraug working with Looking Glass Black where their split EP was released with Ouroboros. 2003 pushed the lead guitarist Saturnus to Horna. As of 2005, Horna was published in the French label Debemur Morti Productions, with his manager Void Shatraug be friends years; This convinced him on the Behexen Tour, played on the Shatraug bass. You signed a contract for two albums, as well as the common split LP Horna and Behexen should be re-released there, which happened in 2006. Despite the problems with the record label Shatraug not decided to leave the band publish just about on his own label Grievantee because Debemur Morti could take better care of Hornas Promotion Himself, with his efforts and finances he dedicate prefer other bands.

2005 Gorthaur had left the band because he came too infrequently to the samples. He was replaced by Ravenum, the Horna had to leave due to an arm injury for which he can not play long Live performances more, and was replaced by Vainaja, who also plays in Vitsaus. After Horna was initially Shatraugs vision and all other members more or less under his leadership, this changed as a result the drummer problems; Shatraug announced that in future there will be under the name of his solo creations Horna no more, but a full-fledged band, whose members bring all what would be heard first on the planned split LP with Sacrificia Mortuorum. This came out in 2007, previously released in 2006 the album Ääniä Yössä, based on the European pandemic of the 14th century; it was exclusively composed of Shatraug and Corvus, where Corvus wrote all the lyrics, and was initially listed as a separate project; the title ääni Yössä was possibly the biggest challenge of all his recordings for Shatraug. They kept the recordings for two years, until they realized that Horna would go musically in a similar direction. Rather than re-record the album, it was released in this form. The illustrations were from Benjamin Koenig, had met the Shatraug on the Misanthropic Violence and later asked if he wanted to paint the cover. The plan was June 6, 2006 as release date, but this was prevented by problems with the artwork files and errors in the final pressing. In the same year Saturnus decided to leave the band, but remained until he had recorded his parts for the album Sanojesi äärelle, which appeared in 2008.

Musical Style

The style of Horna generally corresponds to the Black Metal of the "second wave " of the band 's influences. The riffs are generally quite simple, but the band also has a melodic influence, which they split off from the original, primitive Black Metal.

On Hiidentorni and Kohti yhdeksän nousua the music was firmly rooted in the stereotypes of the genre; on Kohti yhdeksän nousua could the band, according to Nordic vision is not " free from the sense of normalcy ," but the album through live by a high bass and " a certain level of good ideas "; the synthesizer could have ignored their "warm" and but " strong " music was better than most of the newer bands; yet it lacks the magic, and it was to settle only one percent above average. According to Robert Mueller by Metal Hammer were the musicians on Kohti yhdeksän nousua, "that they have mastered the subject matter. Shimmering Riffbögen, dark screaming and just for the extra dimension atmosphere sufficiently rough and dull production make the plate good edible, the anthemic chorus of ' White Aura Buried In Ashes ' can meanwhile Great for the already recorded second album expected. "2011 he called Horna with this publication and the Inquisition into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult of as "two black metal bands, in a time of seemingly imminent commercial triumph for the genre on their way underground reinvigorated - Controversies certainly included ". On the originally not as Horna album conceived and therefore stylistically different recordings Ääniä Yössä partially hypnotic on Sotahuuto strongly Bathory inspired with Crustcore and thrash metal elements. Müller sees this as a " intersection of old Darkthrone and newer Shining".

Texts and ideology

In the biography on their previous page, the band is a textual development of a primitive form of devil worship in an occult, obscure, atmospheric and poetic direction by the nature of their emotions, as a reflection of their beliefs and passions, in, on their MySpace page development of harsh anti-Christian hatred, paganism and fairy towards earnest enthusiasm for the occult, the mysteries of the dark side and Satanism, of adolescent tantrums to maturing inner enlightenment. The statements for setting the musician to Satanism are contradictory: So Shatraug commented to the Infernal Fields' zine, the musicians are as people rather pagan, but described himself simultaneously as Satanists. Due to some texts speak people like Glaurung of Warloghe the band from playing Black Metal: " Well, When tied sings about trolls and calls Themselves Black Metal, I take that as in insult, as many of Horna 's lyrics depict faerytales and that's not at ALL what Black Metal is about ". Shatraug admits that Horna have previously had some stupid texts, and he had nothing against Glaurung person or music, but whose pen name originated from the fantasy writer JRR Tolkien.

Every now and then Horna is called a right-wing band. Reasons for this include the political attitude of the ex-member Nazgul and the orientation of its project Satanic Warmaster, utterances of the band and splits with bands like Legion of Doom and Black Death. So Shatraug complained about Russians in Finland, named as influences, among other things, the right-wing band Nokturnal Mortum and Temnozor and well-known in 2001, even before they separated from Nazgul, open to National Socialism: "Yes, I support him [ Nazism, AdA ] and Warmaster I can say the same. In my view, means of Nazism, proud of his own inheritance and his own country to be, to believe in the brotherhood in arms, and to believe in those values which exclude any foreign influence or religion. " He also gave Nazi ideals as part of Hornas ideology:

"Today we are more dedicated than ever before and as I'm of basically the heart and soul of HORNA, our ideology Has leaned towards Nietzsche, anti - humanity, torments, superstitions, witchcraft and even some ideals NS. I'm quite far from telling what the whole is in just one interview but you can make your own conclusions When reading my answers. Perhaps the best description is " Colere Chaos" - worship of chaos and ruin. . . "

"Today, we are more committed than ever and I am basically the heart and soul of Horna, our ideology to Nietzsche, Anti- humanism, distress, superstition, witchcraft and even some Nazi ideals has tended. I'm pretty far away to tell the whole in only one interview, but you can draw your own conclusions, if you read my answers. Perhaps the best description " Colère Chaos" - worship of chaos and ruins ... "

Later pointed Shatraug " categorization as NSBM back "; the band was not a National Socialist, but " up to a certain point nationalistic " and accused Nazgul, "the Nazi ' in their ranks to have been ," and pointed out that this was no longer a part of Horna. On the official website of the band on the allegations expressed as follows: "Another lingering question is the accusations of being a political belt. HORNA Has never been and never to be a political band- nor do any of the band lyrics have searched content. We are satanist, heathen, BLACK METAL. What any ex -members might also represent is not what we stand for. For once and all, june it be clear. "

However Shatraug said in an interview conducted in 2006 (albeit in the context of his first encounters with Black Metal ): " Looking back, I can honestly say that has not changed my views a great deal ." In addition, he has published over his label Grievantee the same year the double LP Blooddrenched Memorial 1994 - 2002 the French NSBM band Kristallnacht and 2008, the LP version of the album Shoax ( a pun on the Shoah and hoax ) the band hammer in which the Horna former drummer Ravenum plays; with this and Vilheim of Sombre Chemin he also plays in the project Gorehowl whose lyrics convey nationalistic and racist ideas.

In early 2010 several concerts Hornas were canceled in Germany and Austria due to massive pressure from leftwing factions. Shatraug bekundigte out once again that Horna was accused of no political impact, and did the allegations as pure propaganda from.
