Horst Ademeit

Horst Ademeit ( born February 8, 1912 in Breslau, † August 7, 1944 in Daugavpils, missing, probably fallen ) was a German Luftwaffe officer and scored 166 confirmed aerial victories in 600 missions.

Life

As a student at the Albertus University of Königsberg Ademeit in 1932 was a member of the Corps Masovia. Later, he studied chemistry at the Technical University of Berlin and the Technical University of Braunschweig. As a Dipl. -Ing. he was still a peacetime pilot training as a reservist. In the spring of 1940 he was ordered as a sergeant for the 3rd season of Jagdgeschwader 54 to be used in the Battle of Britain. On September 18, 1940 he succeeded his first aerial victory. Shortly afterwards, he was shot down and had to jump over the English Channel, from which he was rescued unharmed by parachute.

In June 1941, after the attack on the Soviet Union, his squadron was transferred to the Eastern Front. There followed in rapid succession victories, promotions and awards until he was appointed commodore of his squadron in early August 1944.

On August 6, 1944 Ademeit won with a Bf 109 his 166th and final air victory over Dvinsk. The next day he pursued in a Fw 190, a Soviet machine of the type Il -2 beyond the front line. Because of an engine hit he was forced to land on Soviet territory and did not return to his unit. Posthumously, he was promoted to Major.
