Horst is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen Sundhagen.

Geography and transport

Horst is located about 15 kilometers east of the city of Pomerania and west of Greifswald. West of the former municipality of the federal road runs 96 and east State Road 105

History

The village Horst was first documented in 1323, the area was populated but much earlier. In the Middle Ages was located in the municipality of the castle Ekberg. She served as a sovereign attachment of the princes of Rügen, which was then ruled here. Since the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) until 1815 the town belonged to Sweden, after which the area became Prussian.

Horst was until 1952 part of the district of Pomerania and was thereafter until 1994 Circle of Pomerania in the district of Rostock. Since 1990, Horst belongs to the state of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.

The municipality Horst joined on 7 June 2009 with the communities Behnke village, Brandshagen, Kirchdorf, Miltzow, Reinberg and Wilmshagen the new community Sundhagen together. It consisted of the districts Horst, Jager, Gerdes forest, Segebadenhau ( incorporated on 1 July 1950) and Wendorf.
