Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Munich

The Bayerischer Hof on Promenade Square in the northwestern town of Munich is a large Grand Hotel, where even today descend still prominent guests and guests of state in Munich.

History

The hotel was erected in 1841 on behalf of Joseph Anton von Maffei, designed by Friedrich von Gärtner. It had initially about 100 rooms and two halls. Among the better-known guests included Empress Elisabeth of Austria - Hungary from Austria and Sigmund Freud. In 1897 the hotel for 2,850,000 gold marks by Hermann Volkhardt was purchased, who converted the facade in the style of the period. In the grand ballroom were at this time on, among other artists such as Enrico Caruso. After the modifications, the Bayerischer Hof in 1924 was the largest hotel in Europe. During the Second World War the building suffered heavy damage, but was rebuilt after the war.

1969 was acquired and developed by Erwin Schleich to the hotel by the Palais Montgelas the neighboring building at the corner of Promenade Place and Kardinal-Faulhaber -Strasse. The palace was built in 1811-1813 by Emanuel Herigoyen for Maximilian Josef Graf von Montgelas. From 1817 to 1933, the palace was the service building of the Bavarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( until 1918: State Ministry of the Royal Household and of Foreign Affairs ) and from 1933 to 1945, the first official residence of the Bavarian State Chancellery.

Equipment

The hotel offers 340 rooms of different room styles, 60 suites, 40 meeting rooms, five restaurants, a breakfast room on the roof garden and six bars. The hotel's spa is located in the upper area of the hotel and stretches over three floors. It was designed by the French interior designer Andrée Putman. It offers, among other things, a sauna, a swimming pool with sun terraces, a bar and a lounge. The gym overlooking the Frauenkirche was designed by Ralf Möller. The entire seventh floor was renovated and offers a VIP tract.

On the ground floor there is also the hotel's Boulevard Theatre Comedy at the Bayerischer Hof and the nightclub Bayerischer Hof with daily life performances of jazz, blues and soul musicians.

The hotel has 585 employees, including 100 trainees. It is located since 1897 in family ownership. Operator is the brothers Volkhardt KG. Managing General Partner since 2004 Innegrit Volkhardt.

  • The Munich Security Conference held regularly in February at the Bayerischer Hof.
  • Summer Jazz at the Bayerischer Hof in July. As a continuation of the 1999 set Munich Piano Summer at which the Bayerischer Hof has been involved since 1992.
