Hotel du Cap

The Hotel du Cap- Eden -Roc is a historic oceanfront hotel in Cap d' Antibes in France.

History

The "Villa Soleil ", the original name of the house, was completed in 1863 as a private residence and retreat for writers under the auspices of Auguste de Villemessant, founder of the daily newspaper Le Figaro. For the construction costs in the amount of time 636,121.62 francs ( about 130,000 U.S. dollars), a consortium of local businessmen French and Russian aristocrats came on, including the Count Stroganov and Prince Plestcheyeff and Soltykoff.

In February 1870, the house opened its doors as a hotel. The official opening ceremony took place on 26 February 1870. The success as a hotel would not be set first. After several changes of ownership, the Italian Antoine Sella hotelier this part derelict hotel bought in October 1887. He was long overdue repairs and renovations to perform. In January 1889 the Hotel du Cap opened its doors again. The innovative hotel owner to get the international upper class to his hotel to Cap d' Antibes succeeded. 1914 was the construction of the Eden Roc pavilion on the cliffs at the lower end of the main axis of the park. At the same time a sea water swimming pool was blasted into the basalt in the immediate vicinity of the pavilion. Since then, the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc and the pavilion form a unit, which is reflected in the name of the house " Hotel du Cap -Eden -Roc ".

1969 bought Rudolf- August Oetker Hotel by André Sella. Since 2012 it belongs to the group of companies Oetker Hotel Management.
