Hôtel Lutetia

The Hôtel Lutetia is a luxury hotel in Paris ( Lutetia was the name of the city in ancient times ). It is located in the neighborhood of Notre- Dame-des -Champs at the intersection of Boulevard Raspail and Rue de Sevres in the 6th arrondissement. A few meters away there is the department store Le Bon Marché, whose owner called it into being.

The hotel was designed in 1910 by architect Louis -Charles Boileau. The facade designed Paul Belmondo, the father of the actor Jean -Paul Belmondo. Hotel Lutetia is considered the first hotel of the Jugendstil ( Art Nouveau French ) in Paris and has a bar in the Art Deco style.

In the period of the Third Republic, it was the meeting point of the so-called Lutetia circle. During the occupation of France in World War II, it was the seat of the German defense and counter-espionage. Alfred Toepfer worked here.

1955 to 2005, the hotel was owned by the Taittinger champagne dynasty, then went into the possession of Alfred Akirov ( group Alrov ).

In 1985 the hotel has been refurbished by Sonia Rykiel; There are various artworks by Arman and César. The hotel has 230 rooms, 30 of them in the Art Deco style.

Famous guests of the hotel were Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, André Gide, Antoine de Saint- Exupéry and Albert Cohen.
