Hotel Negresco

The Hotel Negresco is a luxury hotel opened in 1912 in the style of the Belle Époque right on the waterfront Promenade des Anglais in Nice. The name comes from the Romanian builder Henri Negresco. Édouard Niemans was the architect. The showy, pink dome of the building was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the legend says that the bosom of a loved one served as a model. The Hotel Negresco is one of the founding members of the prestigious Association of Hotel The Leading Hotels of the World.

The hotel has 121 rooms and 24 suites, each room is decorated in a different style. The hotel also features a gourmet restaurant Le Chantecler, which is regularly provided in the restaurant guides with highest honors: in 2013 it carries two stars in the Michelin Guide. Also famous is the clothing of the porters, who are dressed in the style of the 19th century.

The hotel was once a popular meeting place for royalty and the international financial elite. The First World War did not let the successes last long. The hotel was converted into a military hospital. Even after the war did not return the old days. Under pressure from the creditors of Henri Negresco Hotel was soon sold it to Belgian investors. After the development of the hotel was very changeable.

The current owners are since 1957 the members of the Augier family. Mme Jeanne Augier has equipped the hotel in today's palatial style. It also houses an extensive art collection of classical and contemporary painters. In 2003 the hotel has been classified as a historical monument by the French State.
