Hotel New York (Rotterdam)

The Hotel New York is a hotel in Rotterdam. Situated directly on the Nieuwe Maas Hotel is located in the former main building of the Holland America Lijn (HAL ) and is an object of prestige in the urban renewal program Kop van Zuid. It stands as Rijksmonument under monument protection.

The building dates from the years 1901 until 1917, when the new building replaced an accommodation for America emigrants. The building has significant elements of Art Deco and Art Nouveau. After the HAL had moved the company headquarters to Seattle, they sold the building in 1984. It stood empty for several years. 1993, it was opened by Dorine Vos, Hans Loos and Daan van der Have it as a luxury hotel on the banks of the Rhine. While the hotel is located today in the middle of the prosperous Kop van Zuids, there was this 1993, although it plans, but even the building itself was in no man's land. The great business success of the hotel since its opening elements contributed to promote the whole project Kop van Zuid.

The hotel has 72 rooms, of which there are two in the two towers. In addition to conference rooms, there is also a restaurant with 400 seats in the building. For in 2000, the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam, it served as a source of inspiration.

An additionally equipped water taxi service from the hotel to the city center on the other side of the river proved to be such a success that it has now been extended to large parts of the ( accessible via water) urban area. The original investors have the hotel sells now in order to focus on the management of the water taxis.

The singer Anouk Teeuwe named one plate after the hotel at which they reached in the Netherlands platinum status in 2004.
