House of Alba

The house Álvarez de Toledo is especially the dynasty of the Dukes of Alba (Spanish Ducado de Alba de Tormes ) 1465-1755.

History

Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, Señor de Alba de Tormes was raised in 1439 in the rank of count, his son García Álvarez de Toledo, 1465 appointed the Duke. The title of duke remained within the family until 1755, was then passed down through the female line.

A branch line was that of the Marquis' de Villafranca del Bierzo, the 1569 is also a title of duke ( duqe de Fernandina ) was awarded, in 1770 the title of Duke of El Infantado and 1796 the title of Duke of Medina Sidonia inherited.
