House of Tęczyński

Tęczyński is the name of a Polish noble family. The female form of the name is Tęczyńska. The name Tęczyński was first mentioned in the 14th century. The noble family spread mainly in the region of Little Poland and acquired numerous estates there.

The first documentary was named Tęczyński Nawoj z Morawicy in 1331st Nawoj z Morawicy was Castellan of Kraków. His son Andrzej Tęczyński († 1368 ) was Voivode of Cracow and had built the family seat, the castle Tęczyn. The obtained high offices of state lands and helped the nobility in Lesser Poland for political and economic rise in the level magnate. Andrzej Tęczyński († 1536) acquired in 1527 also the hereditary title of Count of the Empire Holy Roman Emperor.

The family died with Jan Magnus Tęczyński 1637 from the male line.
