Houseboat
A houseboat is a firmly anchored floating body can live permanently on the people. In contrast to actual boats, especially houseboats, they can indeed be transportable, but not (any longer ) as an autonomous water vehicles. Rather, they are floating constructions without its own drive ("Floating Homes" ) and not the same as in the outer appearance with boats.
In areas with large bodies of water or in densely populated urban areas with high real estate costs houseboats are used by many people as a permanent home. Large plants are referred to as an accommodation ship.
In houseboats are often at disused barges with appropriate order or set-ups. In Europe, one meets frequently to designs that have been designed primarily for the residential function. The hull is then usually not streamlined, and due to the extended shelf life is often made of concrete. In addition, such forms do not have a private drive.
Advantages and disadvantages but also costs of a residential boat differ not necessarily from conventional homes on the mainland. For example, most of the berths must be approved by the authorities for houseboats in the Netherlands. At many landing stages (eg in the center of Amsterdam ) are size, design and external appearance of such boats subject to strict rules. Houseboats there must not only have an official number, but also about supply connections ( gas, water, electricity) and a terminal equipped to public sewers.
