Hovenia dulcis

Hovenia is a genus of the family of the buckthorn family ( Rhamnaceae ). It includes seven native to East Asia species.

Description

Hovenia are deciduous, unreinforced shrubs or small trees. The leaves are long-stalked and arranged alternate.

The flowers are in terminal or achselbürtigen, three-to many-flowered cymes. The flower cup is inverted - cone - to cup-shaped. The fleshy, flat and the flower cups filling discus is hairy tomentose. The dreifächrige ovary is half inferior. The fruits are more or less fleshy nuts with three seeds. For fruit time inflorescence axis and flower stalk are juicy and fleshy.

Distribution and systematics

The Hovenia include seven species, all in East Asia. The genus was first described in 1781 by Carl Peter Thunberg. Within the buckthorn plants it is classified in the tribe Paliurieae. The types include:
