Howling Wolf (Cheyenne)

Howling Wolf (Cheyenne Ho -na- nist -to, * 1849, † July 5, 1927 in Oklahoma ) was a Cheyenne warrior and graphic artist.

Howling Wolf was one of the warriors of Chief Black Kettle of the Southern Cheyenne. Along with it, he survived one of the few, the sand creek massacre. As a prisoner of war by the U.S. Army at Fort Marion, he was an artist in Ledger Art Howling Wolf stayed for three years in captivity.

In 1878 he was released and returned to Oklahoma back to live in Cheyenne Reservation. Originally he wanted to stay on the East Coast to educate yourself, but an eye condition prevented him. 1881 Howling Wolf turned away from the habits and the lifestyle of white Americans and remembered back to his Cheyenne traditions. He was wearing the traditional clothing of the Cheyenne and kosumierte peyote as part of Indian rituals.

Howling Wolf died in 1927 in a car accident when he drove home coming of a Wild West show to Houston.
