Hoya Corporation

The Hoya K. K. (Japanese HOYA株式会社, Hoya kabushiki - gaisha, Eng. Hoya Corporation) is a Japanese manufacturer of special glasses. The products range from crystal glasses by high-precision glass for computer hard disks and photomasks, contact lenses to optical lenses for cameras and LCD projectors.

History

The Hoya K. K. was founded on November 1, 1941, the Company's headquarters are located in Tokyo. The Company's shares are traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the symbol 7741.

The Hoya K. K. merged 2007/2008 as the acquiring company with the Pentax KK The acquisition should be completed by October 1, 2007, but the line of Pentax initially approved the proposed share exchange not negotiated and other solutions. On May 25, Pentax expressed its agreement with the takeover offer from Hoya and on 6 August 2007 Hoya had acquired 90.59 % of the shares of Pentax. On October 29, 2007, the joint publication that the company Pentax is completely absorbed at 31 March 2008 in Hoya, however, the Pentax brand remained. The Pentax Pentax shareholders The shares were 0.158 Hoya shares. As of October 2011, the camera division of Pentax and the brand name was sold to Ricoh.

Cartel agreements

On 10 June 2010 the Federal Cartel Office against Hoya and other manufacturers of ophthalmic lenses has imposed fines totaling 115 million euro antitrust violations. The decisions are not yet final.
