Technology

Hull

The trimaran hull of Benchijigua Express is made of an aluminum alloy and has been provided to protect against algae with a special surface coating. Inside there are two each ballast and trim tanks that can be filled within five minutes in reaching the harbor at low speed to stabilize the ship.

Machinery and drive

The powerful machinery of Benchijigua Express is installed in the middle of the three hulls. It consists of four 20-cylinder diesel engines of the MTU 8000M70, which are arranged in pairs in separate engine rooms in a row. At a speed of 1.150/min the motors develop a power of 8,200 kW (about 11,150 hp) at delivery of the ship. In 2006, the performance of the main diesel engines was during a six-week maintenance and modification time on each 9,100 kW (about 12,370 hp) increased (Series: MTU 20V8000M71 ). The exhaust gases are discharged via the rear engines, the bridge deck and a chimney, while the exhaust pipes of the front motors open as a wet system between the hulls.

The two rear motors act on transmission of the type Renk ASL65 on two controllable water jet propulsion type KaMeWa 125 SII. The front motors drive via a gear assembly ( Renk ASL2x80 ) and a long shaft system to another firmly installed water jet propulsion type KaMeWa 180 BII, which is designed as an additional drive ( "booster "). The electrical energy generate four MTU 12V 2000 M40 diesel generators, each with 575 kW.

The control of Benchijigua Express on the swiveling water jet drives that are supported at a low speed of two propeller gondolas type Ulstein Aqua Master UL601. They can be used in a special mode of operation, either independently of or together with this main drive.

For damping rolling movements of the ship is equipped with a pair of stabilizers on the longitudinal sides. A T-shaped fin ( "T- Foil" ) in the bow reduces the pounding.

The ship can accommodate up to 155,000 liters of fuel.

Equipment

The Benchijigua Express can accommodate up to 1,291 passengers on two decks. Because of the short crossing times, there are no passenger cabins. For vehicle transport truck 450 meters track length and 123 car parking or alternatively 341 car parking is available in the cargo deck. The car deck can be loaded and unloaded in 30 minutes.
