Hu Wanlin

Hu Wanlin was born in Mianyang in Sichuan Province, where he attended primary school, but neither a secondary school vocational training had visited yet received. In 1980 he was imprisoned for murder, fraud, kidnapping and human trafficking. In prison he began to practice as a doctor. In 1997, he was acquitted on appeal. After his release, he practiced as a physician remains illegal in two northern provinces, until it came to the 1998 ban by the local authorities. He then went to Henan, one of the central provinces of China.

The case of Hu Wanlin drew attention in China on the widespread practice medicine by people without medical training. Subsequently, a procedure for admitting physicians was set up by the government. 1999 completed 300,000 people for the first time in China, a corresponding official exams.
