Huánuco

Huánuco is a city in the Peruvian Andes and the capital of the Huánuco region.
History
The city was founded on August 15, 1539 by the Spanish conquistador Gómez de Alvarado y Contreras under the name La muy noble y leal ciudad de los Caballeros del León de Huánuco in place of the Inca city Yarowilca. Later the settlement of Pedro Barroso was resettled in the valley of the Río Huallaga in order to escape the attacks by Illa Tupac and his army.
Geography
The city is located at about 1880 meters in altitude level Yungas ( Pulgar Vidal after ) or the Tierra Templada in the valley of the Río Huallaga. Huánuco has around 120,000 inhabitants ( INEI 2005). The city is located on a major traffic artery connecting Pucallpa to Lima. is of the FAP David Figueroa Alférez Fernandini Airport ( IATA: SPNC: HUU, ICAO ) uses.
