Hubert Curien

Hubert Curien (* October 30, 1924 in Cornimont; † 6 February 2005 in Loury in Paris) was a French Minister of Research and physicist.

From 1969 to 1973 he was Managing Director 's national research center CNRS.

From 1976 to 1984 curies wore as president of the National Centre for Space Studies ( CNES ), the responsibility for the French space policy. He promoted the development of the Ariane rocket series, which is why it is also referred to as the father of Ariane.

He was appointed Minister of Research from 1984 to 1986 and from 1988 to 1993. Moreover, he was also president of the Forum Engelberg, a major international conference platform for cooperation among industry, academia and politics.

Hubert Curien died at the age of 80 at his home in Loury south of Paris.

Honors

  • The 1968 newly discovered mineral Curienit was named after him.
  • In his honor, as one of the founding fathers of the European space, received on March 14, 2007, the landing place of sales on Saturn's moon Titan Huygens probe the name Hubert Curien Memorial.
