Hüdavendigâr Vilayet

The Vilayet Hüdavendigar ( Ottoman ولايت خداوندكار, IA Vilayet -i Hüdavendigar, Turkish Hüdavendigar Vilâyeti ) or vilayet Bursa - according to their administrative center ( Hüdavendigar is a poetic name for the modern city of Ottoman Bursa), was one of the provinces ( vilayet ) of the Ottoman Empire.

The capital was Bursa. At the beginning of the 20th century, it had an area of ​​67,980 km ². From 1881 to 1888 the vilayet Karesi (now Balikesir) split off as a separate Vilayet of Hüdavendigar.

Population

Until the First World War the area had large Greek and Armenian population shares. According to the census of 1914 were 474 114 inhabitants Muslims, Greeks and 74 927 60 119 Armenians. Jews also lived in the United Province. By the genocide of the Armenians and the persecutions of the Greeks, the non-Muslim population was almost completely wiped out. Today, virtually no Greeks and Armenians live more in the field.
