Hugh S. Fowler ( born July 24, 1912 in Missouri; † August 2, 1975 in Manhattan Beach, California ) was an American film editor at.

Life

Hugh S. Fowler, son of an actor with Scottish ancestors had, a year went to college and then worked as a writer, editor and reporter. On January 27, 1941 he was drafted. After serving in World War II Fowler was hired in 1952 as an editor in the production company 20th Century Fox, for which he was henceforth almost exclusively employed. Although he played only 38 productions in his 20 - year career in film, he cut for Fox some of the most famous film scenes, like the singing and dancing of Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes ( Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, 1953) or Monroe's legendary performance on the air shaft in Billy Wilder's The damn 7 year ( The Seven Year Itch, 1955).

In 1971 he won both the Academy Award for Best Editing and the price of the American Cinema Editors for Patton - Rebell in Uniform ( Patton, 1970). In his last film was The Roy Bean (The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, 1972) with Paul Newman led John Huston directed the film. Three years later, Fowler died at the age of 63 years in California.
