Hugo de los Reyes Chávez

Hugo de los Reyes Chávez ( born January 6, 1933) was from 1998 to 2008 governor of Barinas Venezuela. He is the father of former President Hugo Chávez. Chavez has Indian and African roots. Both he and his wife were village school teacher before she went into politics. Chávez later became " Director de la Educación ". At first he was active in the Christian Democratic Party COPEI until he joined the party led by his son Movimiento Quinta República 1998. Chávez was elected in 1998 with 43.56 % for Governor of the State of Barinas. In the early elections in 2000 he was re-elected with 52.57 % of votes. In 2004, Hugo de los Reyes Chávez presented again for re-election and achieved 76.26 %. In 2008 he was succeeded by his son, Adán Chávez, who raced for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, with 50.48 %.
