Hugo Lentz

Hugo Lentz (originally Lenz, born July 21, 1859 in South Africa, † March 21, 1944 ) was a mechanical engineer.

Life and career

When he was six years old his father died and the family returned to relatives in Germany. He was a Prussian naval engineer.

To 1888, he founded his own engineering works in Vienna. At the exhibition in 1899 in Como (in honor of Alessandro Volta ) won his first steam engine and the first prize at the 1900 Paris Exhibition, the Grand Prix, while Lentz was awarded the gold medal. He earned around 2000 patents. He is best known for its steam machine control ( Lentz'schen Wälzhebel valve control).

As of 1907, built Davey, Paxman & Co and later the Erie City Iron Works in Pennsylvania his steam engines.
