Hungarian Food Safety Office

The National Office for Food Safety ( MÉBiH ) is a central government office based in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in 2003 and informed experts as well as the general public in relation to food safety.

Monitoring

In Hungary, the Ministers of Agriculture monitors almost all security activities in the food chain. So also the MÉBiH is monitored since 2007 by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Tasks

As a "non- authority " has the Office of Food Safety neither an inspection authorization, nor is it maintains laboratories. One of its main tasks is the creation of risk-based observations for monitoring activities and sampling plans in the food and feed control authorities. The MÉBiH carries information on food and feed safety, collate, analyze and evaluate them.

In addition, the MÉBiH is the national agency contract to EFSA, RASFF, WHO INFOSAN Emergency and FAO / WHO Codex Alimentarius.

The approved number of employees of the Office of 18, you are supported by a scientific committee and nine scientific committees composed of recognized experts Hungarian. In addition to ministries, departments and laboratories that deal with food control, cooperates MÉBiH with academic institutions, non-governmental organizations and professional associations.
