Hungarian Workers' Party

The Hungarian Workers' Party (Hungarian Magyar Munkáspárt ) is a Hungarian Communist political party. Founded in 1989 as the successor of the Hungarian Socialist Workers 'Party under the same name, the party was called last until 2013 Hungarian Communist Workers' Party. Party leader Gyula Thürmer.

History and naming

The result is the party on 17 December 1989 reform unwilling parts of the old Unity Party of János Kádár - Hungarian Socialist Workers Party - whose name she took, while the majority of the party was transformed to the social democratic Hungarian Socialist Party.

From 1993 to 2005 she was called shortly Workers' Party ( Munkáspárt ). 1993, there had been a major spin-off, called a hardliner, a new party under the old name of Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party to life.

In November 2005, the Labour Party gave its present name Hungarian Communist Workers 'Party, after a wing Hungarian Workers' Party had split off in 2006 under the leadership of János Fratanolo.

The party has so far never been able to win seats in the Hungarian Parliament. At the municipal level, the party presented a mayor, vice mayor and two five local MPs (as of 2009 ).

The party joined on 1 May 2009 from the EU Party of European Left, the founding members they had heard.

On 11 May 2013, the party had the designation as a communist deleted from its name, as a law introduced the public use of " the authoritarian regimes of the 20th century " related names punishable. Including concepts such as liberation, Marxism, socialism or communism just be taken. Since then, the party bears its present name.

The party is the weekly newspaper A Szabadság (German Freedom ) out.
