Hyacinthoides

Spanish bluebells ( Hyacinthoides hispanica)

The bluebells ( Hyacinthoides ) are a genus within the family asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ). The botanical genus name is derived from the genus Hyacinthoides Hyacinthus and the Greek name for oides similar. Home ranges of the species are in the western Europe and northwestern Africa.

Description

Hyacinthoides species are perennial herbaceous plants. These geophytes form ovoid bulbs from as outlasting. The Onion few basal leaves are formed; they are simple and parallel-veined.

On an inflorescence stems are in a terminal, racemose inflorescence many flowers along with two bracts per flower. The hermaphrodite flowers are triple. The six identically shaped bracts are short fused Roehrig at their base. They are 1.5 to 2 cm long, white to pink to blue. There are two circles, each with three stamens present. The three carpels are a superior ovaries adherent to one to ten ovules per ovary chamber. There are Septalnektarien available. The simple style ends in a swollen scar.

The three-lobed and insulated draft tube capsule fruit contains 3-30 black, more or less spherical, wingless seeds.

System

Some authors include the species to the genus Scilla. A synonym for Hyacinthoides Heister ex Fabricius is: Endymion Dum.

There are only about three to four Hyacinthoides types:

  • Italian bluebell or Hyacinthoides Riviera, Italian bluebell ( Hyacinthoides italica (L.) Chouard ex Rothm. )
  • Spanish bluebells bells or squill ( Hyacinthoides hispanica (Mill.) Rothm. ): The anthers are blue.
  • Atlantic bluebell or ordinary bluebells, butterfly orchid ( Hyacinthoides non-scripta (L.) Chouard ): The anthers are cream-colored. Only with this type of inflorescence is something einseitswendig.

There are a number of hybrids, which are used as ornamental plants: Hyacinthoides × variabilis PDSell ( Syn: Hyacinthoides × massartiana Geerinck ) = Hyacinthoides non-scripta Hyacinthoides hispanica x. They tend in temperate latitudes for naturalizing and then to invasive plants.
