Hydrolastic

Hydrolstic is the brand name of a type of suspension system for motor vehicles by the British company British Motor Corporation (BMC ) and its successors. The engineer Alex Moulton developed the concept that came into Alec Issigonis ' BMC ADO 16 1962 on the market and was later adopted for other models.

Description

Instead of springs made of steel and oil- hydraulic shock absorbers filled with fluid displacement units are used. Each contains a rubber spring and damping must the liquid - a mixture of water and alcohol - Rubber valves happen. Front and rear of each side spring are connected via a pipe so that a deflection of the front wheel causes a raising of the carriage to the rear axle. This counteracts the nod, l especially in smaller cars with a short wheelbase.

Jon Pressnell suggests in his book, Issigonis and Moulton had made themselves from the hydropneumatics the Citroen DS excite, when they were working at the time of its market entry to rubber -liquid suspensions. Moulton had wanted to build a simpler system. Moulton was in the 1980s in an interview, Issigonis and he had studied the Citroen 2CV, are connected at the front and rear suspension to avoid its strong tendency to roll for their project.
