Hylocomiaceae

Hylocomium splendens

The Hylocomiaceae is a family of moss - order Hypnales. Their main distribution has the family in the northern hemisphere.

Typical features

There usually are relative strong mosses that are loosely branched and can often form large lawn. Some of the most common forest and meadow Moose are in this family.

The leaf cells of the mosses of this family are always very long and narrow. A midrib is missing the leaves, but there is at the bottom of a very short double or single rib. In contrast to the cells of the sheet Hypnaceae wings never particularly differentiated.
