Hypocephalus

A hypocephalus is an ordinary funeral amulet as mummies have placed under the head of the ancient Egyptians. The name derives from hypocephalus ὑπό (Greek: under, below, below ) and κεφαλή (Greek: head) ago. Hypocephalus therefore means translated: under the head.

His magical purpose was to keep the deceased warm and to protect his body from grave robbers.
