I-League

The I-League (official Indian Professional Football League ) is the highest Indian football class. The All India Football Federation by the ( AIFF) discharged League was introduced for 2007/08 season and replaced so that the National Football League as the top division. In order to build the I-League, the Asian Confederation AFC controls to around 700,000 euros per year in development aid over the next four years.

History

The League was the first season of ten teams from five different cities. Eight teams came from the last time the discharged National Football League season 2006/ 07, were added the two newly promoted from the second division.

The first season began on 24 November 2007 with the match between Salgaocar and Dempo Sports Club and ended with a 3-0 win for Dempo. The decision for the champion of the first season was very close on the final day. At the end of the season had both Dempo and Churchill Brothers SC 36 points each, Dempo, however, was able to put due to a better goal difference of four goals. This Dempo had won both the last NFL titles and the first I-League Championship. Salgaocar and Viva Kerala were relegated at the end of the season. Since the league for the season was 2008/ 09 was expanded from ten to twelve clubs, rose to four clubs in the second league. These were, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Chirag United Sports Club, Mumbai FC and Vasco Sports Club.

After the reform of the AFC Champions League 2009, the Indian master now takes part in qualifying for the AFC Champions League, and no longer plays directly in the AFC Cup. However, the Dempo Sports Club could in qualifying for the Champions League not prevail and playing in the AFC Cup.

Master of the season 2008/ 09 were the Churchill Brothers, Dempo during this time landed only at # 4. Was runner-up Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan and Vasco have relegated back to the second league. Since the league is to be increased again in the upcoming season, this time at 14 clubs, there will be 4 again promoted from the second league.

Sponsors and television rights

By 2011, was the official sponsor of the League ONGC. In the television rights, the AIFF and Zee Sports signed a ten- year contract for 70 million U.S. dollars, the Zee Sports, the exclusive rights within India guaranteed.
