I Still Miss Someone

I Still Miss Someone is the title of a country song by Johnny Cash, who was released in December 1958 as the B- side of the number one hit single Do not Take Your Guns to Town.

Formation

Cash wrote the song with his brother Roy Cash. The film Walk the Line tells us that he was thinking of June Carter in writing the songs.

When Columbia Records Cash recorded the song on 13 August 1958, Luther Perkins ( guitar ), Marshall Grant ( bass), Buddy Harman (drums) and nowadays unknown background singers on, maybe it was The Jordanaires. He played the rhythm guitar.

Content

The song is about a man who suffers from a painful breakup. He misses his lover and longs for her blue eyes, which he believes to be seen everywhere. He goes to a party, to have fun, but can not overcome his grief. He wonders if she regrets having left him.

Cash's recordings

The original version from 1958 to 1959 appeared on the album The Fabulous Johnny Cash and 1963 Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash. Another studio recording appeared in 1964 on the album I Walk the Line, and a third was with Mercury Records for the album Classic Cash 1988: Hall of Fame Series Date.

Since the song was one of Cash's standard repertoire, and he played the song at nearly every concert, he is included on some live albums, including on At Folsom Prison, At San Quentin, At Madison Square Garden and VH1 Storytellers.

Cover versions

The piece is one of the most covered compositions Cash's. Among the many performers can be found, among others, Joan Baez, Rosanne Cash, Julie Andrews, Stevie Nicks, Emmylou Harris, Percy Sledge and Bob Dylan.
