Iain Matthews

Ian Matthews ( born June 16, 1946 in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire; actually Iain Matthew McDonald ) is a British folk singer and guitarist. In 1970 he had as the lead singer of the eponymous band Matthews Southern Comfort with "Woodstock" a number -one hit in the UK. In 1971 he published his works as Ian Matthews, from 1990 as Iain Matthews.

Biography

The beginnings

Matthews grew up in Scunthorpe, where he played with the local acts The Classics and The Rebels. Later he moved to London in 1966, the surf band Pyramid to join, but he soon left again. After Ashley Hutchings had noticed him, he was mid-1967 a member of Fairport Convention and changed after the publication of the first album of his last name to MacDonald Matthews, to avoid confusion with the King Crimson - musician Ian MacDonald. Matthews Southern Comfort

Retreat, comeback, Reunions

After the establishment of the short-lived band Hi- Fi ( with singer David Surkamp from the band Pavlov 's Dog ) and the release of their album " Moods for Mallards ", his new record company, Matthews ' next solo LP " Shook " in 1983 decided exclusively to bring in Germany on the market.
