Rastrojero is a former Argentine vehicle brand.

History

The Rastrojero project was initiated in 1952 under the government of Juan Perón as the state enterprise Industrias y Aeronáuticas Mecánicas del Estado ( IAME ) project to Córdoba. The aim of the Peronists was the industrialization of Argentina, among other things, by an independent Argentine automotive industry. Politically motivated as the origin of the brand was also its end. On the basis of a decree of the Argentine military junta production in 1979 has been set.

First series 1952-1969

The Argentine government bought up parts of a failed in the United States after the Second World War, production of Empire tractors. In combination with a chassis which was that of the 1937 Ford similar, and 2.2-liter petrol engines with 65 hp of Willys Overland engineers designed a pickup (Spanish Camioneta ) with a cargo of wood and a half-ton payload.

After in 1954 the Empire components were installed and Borgward built an engine plant in Argentina, production ceased on Borgward D4M diesel engines with 1758 cc and 42 hp, 52 hp to later. By 1969 a total of 26,000 vehicles were produced.

Second series 1969-1979

In 1968 a new model was designed. A related about Peugeot Indenor XD diesel engine with 1.8 liter displacement and 65 hp at first, later 68 hp, replacing the Borgward aggregate. The body was styled with a mix of the trapezoidal shape of a Fiat 1800 from 1959 and the cubic forms a Fiat 124 from 1966 modern. The two-door version had a platform made of square metal tubes and wood planks. The four-door pickup version, and the combination had an all-steel body, which also included the bed of the pickup. Frontalito 1969-1979
