Ian Brockington

Ian Fraser Brockington ( born December 12, 1935) is a British psychiatrist.

Brockington is the son of Colin Fraser Brockington, a renowned British physician. Ian was trained as a cardiologist and then went to Nigeria, where he completed his work on cardiomyopathy, this work formed the basis for his doctoral thesis Heart muscle disease in Nigeria ( " heart failure in Nigeria ").

On his return, he decided to get trained in psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital. He developed a strong interest in the nosology of psychiatric disorders. He went as a visiting professor to Chicago, where he several works on the nosology of psychiatric disorders in collaboration with RE Kendell and H.Y. Meltzer published. He was a lecturer at Manchester University and received very quickly a chair at the University of Birmingham. At that time he had already developed an interest in postpartum psychiatric disorders and was one of the founders of Marcé Society, 1990, and the founder of the Women's Mental Health Section in the World Psychiatric Association. Together with Ramesh Kumar, he published two volumes, Motherhood and Mental Illness and Motherhood and Mental Illness, Causes and Consequences.

In 1996 his book, Motherhood and Mental Health, and recently he published two more books - Menstrual Psychosis and Eileithyia 's Mischief, named after the ancient Greek goddess of childbirth and midwifery Eileithyia.

He is also known for his hobby, the restoration of a Tudor farmhouse.
