Ian Brooker

Murray Ian Hill Brooker, better known as Ian Brooker, ( born June 2, 1934 in Adelaide, South Australia ) is an Australian botanist. He is considered the capacity for the genus Eucalyptus. His botanical author abbreviation is " Brooker ".

Early years

Ian Brooker was born in Adelaide. He studied at the University of Adelaide and completed his studies there with the title B.Ag.Sc. (Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences ) from. Then studied at the Australian National University in Canberra and received there the M.Sc. ( Master of Science) and D.Sc. (Doctor of Science).

Professional life

1957 Brooker joined the " Soil Conservation Branch " of the " Department of Agriculture of South Australia " one. In 1963 he moved to the Botanical Institute of the Australian National University in Canberra and in 1969 the Western Australian Herbarium in Perth.

In 1970, Brooker joined to the " Forest Research Institute " in Canberra, which is part of the " Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation " is today. There he began the study of the genus Eucalyptus, especially their taxonomy. He traveled throughout Australia to collect type material.

As eucalyptus specialist, he traveled to many parts of the world, including the USA, Brazil, in most European countries, South and East Africa, Morocco, Israel, India, China and New Zealand. 1980/1981 he was named "Australian Botanical Liaison Officer" at the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.

Publications

Brooker has published over 100 research reports and described 180 species. He wrote four books is one of the authors of Forest Trees of Australia.

Honors

In 2006 he was appointed Member of the Order of Australia.
