Ian McCartney

Sir Ian McCartney ( born April 25, 1951 in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland ) is a former British Labour MP. He now lives in Wigan.

Life

From 1987 to 2010 he belonged to the British House of Commons as MP for the constituency Makerfield ( Wigan in Manchester ). He was involved, as in 1999, the British minimum wage ( National Minimum Wage ) was introduced by Prime Minister Tony Blair:

" For the former Labour MP Ian McCartney, the law for the introduction of minimum wages was the best thing that has happened to him in his political career, he says ... He remembers well: 'We then had the longest session of Parliament at all. I never leave the chamber, my beard grew, my armpits stank, but I was determined to pass the law. He was in the Cabinet from 2003 to 2007, when Gordon Brown was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On 28 May 2010 he was awarded the British honor Knight Bachelor ausgezeichnet.Er was defeated by the British Crown as a Knight Bachelor knighted and must now carry the additional name sir.
