History

IAV was established in 1983 as a spin-off of the Technical University of Berlin, on the initiative of the then head of the Department of motor vehicles at the TU Berlin, Hermann Appel. The company developed over 30 years of innovative concepts and technologies for future vehicles.

Areas of activity

Its core competencies include production-ready solutions in all areas of electronics, powertrain and vehicle development. Its customers include all major automotive manufacturers and suppliers worldwide. Apart from the development centers in Berlin, Gifhorn and Chemnitz, IAV has additional locations in Europe, Asia and North and South America.

Major projects in which IAV has been involved, including the 1 -liter car from VW, the adjustment of the 5-cylinder TDI engine for the Volvo 850, engine management and transmission control of the 3- liter Lupo and eco are Polo by VW, which was in 1987 equipped with a diesel particulate filter and had an average consumption of 1.7 l/100 km.
