Ibar River
Ibar Bridge in Raška
The Ibar (Cyrillic Ибар ) is a river in Montenegro, Kosovo and southern Serbia with a total length of 276 km. The source is located in the Hajla Mountains near Rožaje in eastern Montenegro. From there, the river runs through a deep gorge towards the east into Kosovo. In Gazivoda the Ibar was dammed; so the Gazivodasee arose. In Kosovska Mitrovica the Ibar absorbs the light coming from the south Sitnica. Here the river forms the de facto border between the predominantly Serb- populated Northern Kosovo, which is under control of the government in Pristina part of the country. The bridge over the Ibar, provides a strategic focal point in the region and was repeatedly the scene of violent riots. The Ibar flows from then in a northerly direction until it empties in Kraljevo in the Western Morava (Serbian Western Morava ).
