Iberia de Córdoba

Iberia de Córdoba was a Mexican football club in 1921 at the Campeonato del Centenario, the national championship of Mexico, took part. The club had its headquarters in the city of Cordoba in the state of Veracruz.

History

The brothers Olavarrieta decided in 1915 for the export of coffee on a large scale. To this end, they hired a large number of young Spanish immigrants already living partly in Córdoba and were hired in part in the port city of Veracruz and brought to Cordoba. In the same year, this group called a football team to life, which they gave the name of Iberia. For the first president of the team financed shareholder Santiago Olavarrieta was appointed.

Because it initially lacked opponents, they contested their first games within the association, but began to compete soon with clubs from Veracruz and the neighboring Orizaba. Already 1915/16 for the first time the state championship of Veracruz was discharged, the Iberia won a total of three times: in 1922, 1926 and 1932.

Financial problems in the home Olavarrieta eventually led to the dissolution of the Association, whereupon many players to other clubs, mainly in Veracruz and Orizaba joined.
