IBM Docs

IBM Docs is a cloud -based web editor for text documents, presentations and ( Excel ) tables. IBM Docs allows users to edit content simultaneously and in real time. Documents are stored on a central server, and can be released from there for other persons to edit. IBM Docs is designed to help teams to work more on documents and to facilitate revision and consolidation processes. IBM Docs thus enters as a competitor to Google Docs and Office 365 from Microsoft.

Functionality

IBM Docs applications are to be supported, in which ( for example, multiple users work simultaneously on a presentation and have a high need for coordination ) team collaboration and real-time communication is needed. IBM Docs provides users the ability to simultaneously with multiple parties to maintain real-time content and expand. About a built-in function comment sections can be commented on and discussed. Comments and discussions are possible both in the document itself and outside the documents. For specific comments that are directed to specific people, @ Mentions ( @ username ) can be used.

IBM Docs supports binary Microsoft Office formats (eg. Doc,. Ppt), OpenDocument formats (eg. Odt. Ods) and XML -based Microsoft Office formats (eg. Docx,. Xlsx). In addition, templates can be uploaded, which can be used as a template file. IBM Docs uses as a document management system, the file storage of Lotus Connections. In IBM Connections files are centrally stored, shared and released for editing. In addition, different versions can be managed to ensure that the latest version is available for all team members. Documents can be shared with other users different read and write privileges.

An important innovation is to work with different containers within a document. User permissions can even be assigned separately within a file. For example, sensitive information such as passwords can be stored in a document, which are visible only to privileged employees accordingly. IBM Docs Use

IBM Docs is both on- premises, as well as in the IBM SmartCloud for Social Business is available for business customers. The requirement for an on- premises use is an existing IBM Connections installation. To use IBM Docs in the SmartCloud for Social Business, a customer must either opt for SmartCloud Engage Advance or IBM Docs as an add -on to SmartCloud Engage Entry or SmartCloud Connections to book. IBM Docs is a web-based pure and can therefore be used via the browser without local installation. Supported browsers are Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.

Mobile access

IBM Docs brings an app for the iPad, which is integrated into the IBM Connections app. To use IBM Docs on the iPad, the latest version of IBM Connections app should be downloaded from the App Store and installed on the terminal. With the app you can edit text documents and presentations (Excel ) tables can be viewed.
